Environmental Science
The Department of Environmental Science has been set up under the Faculty of Life Science and Technology. The department is interdisciplinary in nature & has been sharing its knowledge & facilities with other departments of the University since its commencement. Later, the department introduced major courses i.e. Ph.D, M.Sc.(Environmental Science), B.Sc. (Hons.) in Environmental Science. After few years, the department started offering PG Diploma in Safety, Health & Environment (PGDSHE), PG diploma in Environment Pollution Management (PGDEPM) and two certificate courses titled Certificate in Waste Management and Biomedical Waste Management with the vision of generating efficient problem-solving ability within students. The department is well equipped with modern facilities for pursuing research in various fields of environmental science. Environmental Science department encourages the sustainable management, protection, restoration of natural resources & also carries leading researches in the field of environmental biotechnology, biodiversity, agro waste management, mushroom production culture, EIA, EHS, air & water pollution analysis & other relevant environmental aspects addressing major challenges facing our planet.
MISSION
The mission of the Department of Environmental Sciences is to contribute efforts and solution for sound environment management and sustainable development through quality education, vast practical analysis and training exposure. We are keen to create better minds for solving global challenges in supplies of natural resources, mitigation of natural hazards, protection of the environment biodiversity conservation and public awareness.
VISION
The department endeavors to maintain unity and create excellent minds with respect to nature and biodiversity conservation by the Indian Constitution and UN vision. We nourish future environmental leaders to create a sustainable society that embodies respect & care for thesociety, nature and biodiversity as a part of our social responsibilities. JOB OPPORTUNITY
Most environmental scientists work for federal, state, or local governments, where they conduct research, advise on policy, and verify that businesses are following regulations. As of 2012, most environmental scientists (22%) worked in state government. Another 21% worked for companies providing management, scientific, and technical consulting services. These professionals usually help companies comply with regulations. 14% worked for local government agencies. 10% provided engineering services, and 7% worked for the federal government.
The job outlook for environmental scientists is excellent. Employment is projected to grow 15% from 2012 to 2022, which is faster than the average for all occupations. Issues like climate change and fracking have spurred more public interest in the environment. The country's aging infrastructure will also have to be replaced. These issues will likely fuel job growth.
Environment Science provides diverse knowledge on pollution monitoring, analysis, interpretation, problem-solving, survey work, ecological services, biodiversity conservation, law, policies, forestry, Environment Impact Analysis and many other multidisciplinary aspects. All these domains have widened the opportunities for the students of environmental science in vast job sectors including govt. sectors, private sectors, industries, teaching, research, consultancies and NGO’s etc.
The students of environment science hold a number of reputed designations and posts with handsome payment. Salary may vary according to the size of the organization, sectors, working location, education, and various other factors. We are giving you a rough idea here.
